"Boxing at its finest" – Inoue vs Donaire named FOTY by Boxing News

22nd, December 2019

Boxing’s longest-running magazine, dating back to 1909, has this year’s World Boxing Super Series finals as No. 1 and No. 2 on their Top 10 ‘Fight of the Year’ 2019.

The WBSS bantamweight Ali Trophy final – also known as the ‘Drama in Saitama’ – between Naoya Inoue and Nonito Donaire on November 7 in Saitama, Japan secured the No. 1 honour with this motivation in Boxing News’ latest issue: ‘The WBSS delivered again as the bantamweight finalists put on a bedazzling showcase of boxing at its finest in Japan, with a unanimous triumph leaving Inoue as the WBA and IBF king.’

The epic back-and-forth final in Japan ranks No. 3 on the magazine’s list of ‘Fight of the Decade’.

No. 2 on the FOTY list is the WBSS super-lightweight Ali Trophy final between Josh Taylor and Regis Prograis on October 26 in London, England. BN writes: ‘Taylor took home the WBSS 140lb trophy, as well as the WBA and IBF belts, after overcoming Prograis on a majority decision in a brutal and pulsating bout in Greenwich.’
