Retro WBSS: Usyk ‘very feel’ despite Huck's push in Berlin

13th, April 2020

Usyk vs Huck, the opening bout of Season 1 of the quest for the Ali Trophy, is shown live tonight at 7pm (UK) on World Boxing Super Series Facebook and YouTube.

If you ever wondered where Aleksandr Usyk’s unique expression, “I am feel, I am very feel” originated from, it was first said at the build-up to this event. After the weigh-in, Usyk was simply asked how he felt with 24 hours until the historic first encounter of the WBSS. And the answer resonated throughout the world and even evolved into a piece of merchandise as a t-shirt with the famous words on it.

The atmosphere was not so ‘feel’ earlier in the week as things got heated bet-ween WBO champ Usyk and Marco Huck before their cruiserweight quarter-final at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin, Germany on September 9, 2017.

During the classic head-to-head photo after the press conference, Huck forcefully pushed his Ukrainian opponent who managed to stay calm.

“I wanted to show Usyk that he is my hometown and that he should be prepared for the battle of his life on Saturday!” said Huck.

At the press conference itself there were no signs of hostility: “If you want to be a great champion, you have to beat the best and Huck is one of the best,” said Usyk. “I chose to enter this tournament because it’s a path to achieve my dream of unifying all the belts.

“There’s a prestigious trophy at stake too, the Muhammad Ali Trophy. We were born on the same day and I admire Ali because he is the biggest role model in boxing, and I will thank God if I win a trophy with his name on it.”

Said Marco Huck: “I’m glad to be here in Berlin as I have been giving many victory interviews in this city. It’s an important fight. For me, it’s about the fight against Aleksandr. I have been tested more in my battles than he has.

“My performance is the most important, I have no fear of stepping up against Aleksandr. When I’m at my best I can beat anybody!”

The 2017-18 Season 1 of the World Boxing Super Series consisted of two weight classes, Cruiserweight and Super-Middleweight, and featured battles that became classics of the sport. Over the next two weeks, both divisions will resurface on WBSS platforms to entertain fight fans all over the world during these challenging times.
