Aleksandr Usyk vs Murat Gassiev was the epic Cruiserweight Final of Season 1 of the quest for the Ali Trophy, and it will be rebroadcast live tonight at 7pm (UK) on World Boxing Super Series Facebook and YouTube.

On July 21, 2018 in Moscow, Russia, the World Boxing Super Series Cruiserweight tournament came to its conclusion with the winner coming out with the Muhammad Ali Trophy and all four recognized belts (WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF) – a historic achievement for the victor.

In a battle of unbeaten cruiserweight champions, WBC & WBO champion Aleksandr Usyk (14-0, 11 KOs) collided with IBF & WBA champ Murat Gassiev (26-0, 19 KOs) before a capacity crowd of 24,000 at Olimpiysky Sports Complex in Moscow.

Usyk owned the ring that night in Moscow in what looked like a career-best performance, showcasing all his skills which catapulted him into one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the sport.

Before the fight, the Ukrainian said:  “When the strong guys meet, the fights are interesting! This is what is so great about this tournament. It is necessary for the sport. I have said it before and I will say it again: the fans should expect a beautiful final!”

How right he was.

The trophy was presented to Usyk in the ring by Muhammad Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali.

“Since this is the first Ali Trophy ever presented and as a part of Muhammad’s legacy in boxing, I am proud to be here to represent the Ali family, “ said Lonnie Ali before the fight. “Muhammad would have been proud to see one of these champions being rewarded with the trophy that carries his name.”
