The WBSS is back with a bang!

25th, September 2020

Dear fans of the WBSS,

As I said in May paraphrasing our virtual ambassador Muhammad Ali: “The dance under the lights will be back.”

So here we are, back under the lights with the massive Mairis Briedis vs Yuniel Dorticos Ali Trophy showdown, the exciting conclusion of Season II of the World Boxing Super Series.

It is good to be back on the road and to deliver fights again for those who have always supported us, especially throughout this crazy year. We treasure it, and we thank you!

We are used to the biggest arenas for our finals, but this time we have to do it differently. Briedis and Dorticos will fight behind-closed-doors at the Plaza-media Studios in Munich, which is one of the best and most hi-tech studios in the world. The look and feel will be spectacular, and it is an ideal and safe solution for everyone involved.

Historically fighters have always had to prepare to fight anywhere in the world to prove themselves as exemplified by Muhammad Ali who fought in places like Zaire, the Philippines, Indonesia, and …Germany. Yes, Ali fought on two occasions in Germany with one of them being in Munich in 1976 against Richard Dunn at the Olympiahalle for the heavyweight title.

The Greatest was at his greatest when he fought in Munich: Ali, aged 34, floored Dunn three times in the fourth and twice in the fifth before the referee had seen enough …

Both Briedis and Dorticos are inspired by Ali’s achievements inside and outside of the light-up square. They both list him as one of their idols, and on Saturday, one of them will have their name engraved on a trophy that bears his name.

It’s a huge night for boxing and a defining one for the fighters.

Let the best man win!
